Why Every Etsy Shop Needs a Front Door Product

Here's a little business truth that completely changed how I think
about my shops:
It's not about the first sale.
It's about being there first.
Let me explain.
A wedding isn't one purchase.
It's a year-long journey filled with dozens of buying moments along the way.
Save-the-dates.
Invitations.
RSVPs.
Menus.
Signage.
Programs.
Thank-you cards.
The list goes on (and on, and on). I've even had some couples come back later for baby shower stationery too. š
So here's the question that actually matters:
Who do they buy all of that from?
Usually, whoever they bought from first.
Because once a couple finds a seller they love early onāsomeone whose style they adore and whose products are easy to useāthey don't tend to go shopping around again.
Why would they?
They've found their person.
They just come back.
And back.
And back again.
That's the whole game.
Get them at the start of their journey and you don't just win one saleāyou position yourself to win the entire wedding.
The Power of a Front Door Product
This brings me to my favourite concept right now:
The front door product.
A front door product is simply the first thing a customer buys when they begin a new journey.
It's the product that introduces them to your shop.
It's the product that earns their trust.
And if you choose the right one, it naturally leads to more purchases later.
My favourite front door product right now?
š¤ Wedding Websites
Think about it.
A wedding website is one of the very first things a couple sets up after
getting engaged.
Before invitations.
Before menus.
Before signage.
Before half the stationery even exists.
It's where the journey begins.
So if you're the one who helps them create that website?
You're now first in line for everything that comes after.
And the best bit?
You can create the whole thing in Canva.
No Code. No Canva Pro.
If you can drag and drop, you can make one.
It really is that simple.
What's the Front Door in Your Niche?
So here's your challenge for the week.
Take a look at your shop and ask yourself:
"What's the earliest thing a customer would buy from me?"
Because that product might be your biggest opportunity.
Not sure what that looks like?
Here are a few ideas to get you thinking.
š Weddings
A wedding website or save-the-date template.
Win them here and you're in line for invitations, menus, signage, programs, thank-you cards, and more.
š¼ New Parents
A pregnancy announcement or baby shower invitation.
Next comes nursery prints, milestone cards, keepsakes, and birthday invitations for years.
š Parties & Birthdays
One birthday invitation today can become a customer who returns every yearāfor every child, sibling, cousin, and celebration.
š Teachers
A classroom decor set gets you in the door.
Then come planners, labels, educational resources, and fresh classroom themes every school year.
š¼ Small Business Owners
A branding kit or starter social media template.
From there you can become their go-to source for launches, promotions, content, and marketing materials.
š” Real Estate Agents
A listing flyer template.
One sale can turn into repeat purchases for every property they sell.
š Holiday & Seasonal Products
A Christmas card template may bring someone into your shop for the first timeāand then bring them back every December.
šļø Planner Lovers
A starter planner often leads to add-on pages, trackers, stickers, inserts, and fresh planner editions year after year.
See the Pattern?
The sellers who grow the fastest aren't always the ones creating the
most products.
They're often the ones who understand the customer journey.
They know how to get in early.
They know what opens the door.
So instead of asking:
"What should I sell next?"
Try asking:
"What's the front door product in my niche?"
Lead with that.
Be the front door.
The rest of the journey will often follow you home.
And never underestimate the power of a return customer.
Big love,
