A lot of my members ask about how I approached starting my Etsy Digital Product stores in the beginning, and if it’s changed over time. The marketplace is always evolving, but I still think Etsy is the best platform to get started selling digital products. Here is what I would do if I was starting a brand new store today.
Pick a great niche and stick to it
Choose a niche and commit to it – one of the things I struggled with most in the beginning was choosing one thing (not all the things) and its why it took me so long to grow… It was only when I really focused on one niche and creating products just for it that I started to see the momentum I was looking for.
Choose a niche, set a goal for your product count and commit to it.
Focus on thumbnails
Especially on search based websites like Etsy, your thumbnail can make or break your product. Aim for beautiful, clear photos – you don’t need to explain everything about your product on the first page.
Good thumbnails are simple, clear & polished.
Create connected products
A lot of people will purchase multiple products that compliment each other – increase your chances by making sure you have some products that connect!
For example with social media posts, think about adding newsletter templates, highlights & carousels. Bonus points if you want to roll them into a higher priced bundle.
Split my time between trends & foundational
Finally if I was starting a new store, I would be focused on both foundational products (products that are always popular and sell but are typically more competitive) and low competition high sales trends.
I find in the beginning trends will be your main sellers but as you grow and your store gains traction your foundational products will sell more and more frequently. This leads to more stability long term.
Good luck
